भीष्म साहनीभीष्म साहनी जन्म08 अगस्त रावलपिंडीमौत11 जुलाई () (उम्र;87 वर्ष)दिल्लीपेशालेखक, नाटककार, अभिनेता, सामाजिक कार्यकर्ताराष्ट्रीयताभारतीयकालभीष्म साहनी (८ अगस्त१९१५-११ जुलाई२००३) आधुनिक हिन्दी साहित्य के प्रमुख स्तंभों में से थे। रावलपिंडी में जन्मे, १९३७ में लाहौर गवर्नमेन्ट कॉलेज से अंग्रेजी साहित्य में साहनी ने एम ए किया, भारत पाकिस्तान विभाजन के पूर्व अवैतनिक शिक्षक होने के साथ-साथ ये व्यापार भी करते थे। विभाजन के बाद उन्होंने भारत आकर १९५८ में पंजाब विश्वविद्यालय से पीएचडी की उपाधि हासिल की और समाचारपत्रों में लिखने का काम किया। बाद में भारतीय जन नाट्य संघ (इप्टा) से जा मिले। इसके पश्चात अंबाला और अमृतसर में भी अध्यापक रहने के बाद दिल्ली विश्वविद्यालय के ज़ाकिर हुसैन दिल्ली महाविद्यालय में साहित्य के प्रोफेसर बने। १९५७ से १९६३ तक मास्को में विदेशी भाषा प्रकाशन गृह (फॉरेन लॅग्वेजेस पब्लिकेशन हाउस) में अनुवादक के काम में कार्यरत रहे। यहां उन्होंने करीब दो दर्जन रूसी किताबें जैसे टालस्टॉय आस्ट्रोवस्की इत्यादि लेखकों की किताबों का हिंदी में रूपांतर किया। १९६५ से १९६७ तक दो सालों में उन्होंने नयी कहानियां नामक पात्रिका का सम्पादन किया। वे प्रगतिशील लेखक संघ और अफ्रो-एशियायी लेखक संघ (एफ्रो एशियन राइटर्स असोसिएशन) से भी जुड़े रहे। १९९३ से ९७ तक वे साहित्य अकादमी के कार्यकारी समीति के सदस्य रहे। भीष्म साहनी को हिन्दी साहित्य में प्रेमचंद की परंपरा का अग्रणी लेखक माना जाता है।91;193; वे मानवीय मूल्यों के लिए हिमायती रहे और उन्होंने विचारधारा को अपने ऊपर कभी हावी नहीं होने दिया। वामपंथी विचारधारा के साथ जुड़े होने के साथ-साथ वे मानवीय मूल्यों को कभी आंखो से ओझल नहीं करते थे। आपाधापी और उठापटक के युग में भीष्म साहनी का व्यक्तित्व बिल्कुल अलग था। उन्हें उनके लेखन के लिए तो स्मरण किया ही जाएगा लेकिन अपनी सहृदयता के लिए वे चिरस्मरणीय रहेंगे। भीष्म साहनी हिन्दी फ़िल्मों के जाने माने अभिनेता बलराज साहनी के छोटे भाई थे। उन्हें १९७५ में तमस के लिए साहित्य अकादमी पुरस्कार, १९७५ में शिरोमणि लेखक अवार्ड (पंजाब सरकार), १९८० में एफ्रो एशियन राइटर्स असोसिएशन का लोटस अवार्ड, १९८३ में सोवियत लैंड नेहरू अवार्ड तथा १९९८ में भारत सरकार के पद्मभूषण अलंकरण से विभूषित किया गया। उनके उपन्यास तमस पर १९८६ में एक फिल्म का निर्माण भी किया गया था। प्रमुख रचनाएँउपन्यास - झरोखे, तमस, बसंती, मय्यादास की माडी़, कुन्तो, नीलू निलिमा नीलोफरकहानी संग्रह - मेरी प्रिय कहानियां, भाग्यरेखा, वांगचू, निशाचरनाटक - हानूश (१९७७), माधवी (१९८४), कबिरा खड़ा बजार में (१९८५), मुआवज़े (१९९३)आत्मकथा - बलराज माय ब्रदरबालकथा- गुलेल का खेलसंदर्भबाहरी कड़ियाँलोग अमन चाहते हैं: भीष्म साहनी की मृत्यु से कुछ ही समय पहले लिये गया बीबीसी साक्षात्कार (आडियो भी उपलब्ध) .
